Our Boxter Turnouts were designed for your horse's comfort as the priority. We wanted to consider their true freedom to graze, freedom to move as well as their safety in the paddock, and ensure waterproof, robust and breathable fabric again for their comfort and protection.
Freedom to graze for us meant taking pressure away from under the neck, freedom to move meant looking at how the shoulder/scapula of the horse truly moves and safety in the paddock meant a front closure that was safe and secure in terms of fit while also being safe from catching on haynets or some types of fencing.
Both our Boxter Dart and our Field Safe Front Closure have been approved with design protections for being unique in the world and purposeful in their intention.
Of course, if we are designing a rug for the comfort of your horse, it is not complete without being waterproof and breathable with a rating of 10,000/10,000mm, durable with its 1200D Ripstop polyester fabric, and versatile with it's liner compatibility, detachable neck cover included and even the extra little detail of a lifted design of the attachments for the neck cover to allow more give when the horse is reaching down reducing friction on the horse's mane, without affecting the fit or movement of the rug itself.
Blue Ice offers our latest updates including a longer, deeper neck rug, extra protection for under the belly, and our new lightweight 'pillow' bib next to the chest under the clips.
We also have included an extra pair of d-rings at the back of the rug so in very stormy weather you can add a second strap, but also you can adjust the height that your tail cord sits at depending on what suits your horse's fit best.
Overall rating: 4.9 / 5 from 89 reviews.

Great option to keep my Haflinger dry in cold wet weather. He runs really warm so most rugs will make him sweat. This one is perfect though. It’s been raining for several days and he is happy and snug without overheating. Great quality fittings and material. Definitely a higher end rug.

Living up to its waterproof rating. Will never buy anything less now. If it can withstand our 3M of rain a year it will cope with anything.

This rug fits my chunky boy perfectly. I love the huge tail flap and the fill is perfect for a wet chilly winter, keeping him just perfect temperature. The velcro cover over the chest buckles is amazing at keeping the rug in place and there is no chance of it catching on anything.

I took a chance and bought this rug on sale for my finely built pony. After reading reviews I was worried that it would be too big around the chest to fit him, but I received it today and popped it on - perfect fit all around!

I brought this cover for my elderly PPID mare as she was struggling with thermoregulating and had also clipped her underside. Shes normally not a fan of covers but this fitted like a glove, and she seemed to actually like it. It didn't budge, and trust me, she loves mud so she put it through its paces. She didn't get too hot, but wasn't cold either with the 50g - popped the neck rug on in particularly bad, wet and cold weather to keep a bit warmer. Highly rate! Also love the lighter colour as days can get quite sunny in NZ (usually take off but just in case can't or late no worries with overheating).

Iv recently changed over to these LE rugs. I was skeptics at first as I’m a Skye park girl for many years. My horses SP rug kept slipping and the straps going where they shouldn’t. I tried to problem solve but it didn’t change. This LE rug has not moved. It’s very light and sits nicely on her. I have ordered a bunch more! I’m very happy with this product and the after care / customer service is genuinely superior to other companies iv dealt with. Very quick response time, nice genuine replies. I cannot fault anything - you’ve got a new customer here and that is a big thing for me to swap over as I said

Excellent rug and the weight is super versatile! Survived almost two strait weeks of Wellington wind and storms, and didn’t move at all or rub my boy! Highly recommend!

Very happy with the purchase of the Boxter for my chunky boy 😊

Love the boxter 50gram turnout rug. The fit is perfect for my 15.1hh qh who has large shoulders. Fits perfect at the chest & I’m sure is far more comfortable for her to wear compared to layering dual rugs.

A fantastic rug not to heavy or to light, fit excellent on big heavy, wide horses. Love the new double clips at the back and my horse is very happy with the quilted patch behind the chest clips. He is a sensitive boy and this works extremely well for him

I’ve had this rug for a couple months now through some absolutely horrendous weather. It hasn’t moved once. My 26yo is always dry, warm and still has plenty of movement to do her paddock zoomies and bucks with her paddock mates. I definitely recommend these.

Perfect fit for my TB these rugs don’t move, don’t cut into his chest and the field safe closure is an absolute must for me. This is my second Boxter turn out and I’ll be adding another to the collection soon. I love the versatility the Boxter range gives me.
Ruby H. 5/5 Verified
Rug settles into his body nicely and doesn’t move. He has already been rolling in these photos and it stays perfectly in place. My only wish was for the neck to be more generous.

Beautiful quality rug, gorgeous colour and a very good roomie fit on my Arabian gelding. It is very warm and serves as a fabulous overnight rug during the winter months. Excellent for taking inland to Endurance events where it is that bit colder.
Debbie S. 5/5 Verified
Fabulous rug, fits really well and kept our mare dry and warm in some horrid NZ weather. Love the detachable neck for when it’s a bit warmer weather, plan to purchase a few liners for when we clip her

What a gorgeous rug this is - Blue ice - and so beautifully made. I love it and the fact that this rug actually fits my chunky mare's large neck/chest is such great news after the 5th rug I've tried (even XL gussets with other brands don't fit). So excited and happy thank you LE team and Andrea for all your help, time and support. It's roomy around her chest and shoulders and will be cozy for the winter days/nights - a very happy pony. The neck is extra-long which will give great coverage during the rains - well thought of LE. I feel the 50g will be just perfect for her as she tends to run warm being a big chunky Percheron. Happy customer thanks heaps. :) And is great that the tail cord has plastic piping - no messy poops on the cord to clean up, just wipe and its clean. Brilliant! love this innovation.

Fit is different to other rugs and takes a little getting used to as the shoulder gussets/neckline don't sit quite how you expect them to. No doubt it works though, love how much shoulder room there is for a broad horse who regularly tears through gussets on other rugs. The quality of materials is great, water is still beading off the rug even after days of heavy rain.

As with all Leader Equine rugs (I’m a huge fan) this one is great for the not so warm nights and/or days when your horse runs a little warm. The improved fit and length is absolutely perfect 👌🏼 the double tail straps gives added security for the boisterous horses that like to scratch and play. My young horse is 18hh+ and it fits him perfectly, better than all other rugs I have used and tried. The shoulder darts give plenty of freedom for movement and the extended length gives more overall warmth around the belly and coverage for the neck. We have now switched all horses to the Leader Equine range and would recommend to anyone interested. I’ve even offered for friends to try my own rugs for fit and function. Seriously for the price point you won’t find better 🙌🏼 these are definitely better quality than even the most sought out high end brands. Do your horse a favour and try the Leader Equine range.

Firstly the colour! How can we not talk about that - one of the best colours Secondly we had 20ml of rain last night and my 26yr old TB was nice and dry this morning My TB is 16.3hh and this fits him very well The neck attachment is really easy to put on and off, a lot easier than my QH’s Rambo rug The front clips are a bit awkward, mainly the bottom one however I will get used to it Very happy with my purchase

Fits my broad pony really well (stays in place and doesn’t move) and love the flexibility of being able to remove the neck rug when it’s sunny

I have two 6’3 mares that fit different ends of the rug spectrum - one requires a smaller 6’3 fit and the other requires a larger 6’3 fit. The boxer rug fits both mares very well. No movement. No pulling backwards. Very happy.
Joanne K. 5/5 Verified
Fits my 4yo 16.3hh warmblood mare perfectly with room for her to mature without growing out of the rug. Love the boxer design and fit.
Joanne K. 5/5 Verified
So stoked with the fit. She can be very fussy about the feel of a rug and won’t move freely in many but this gives lovely shoulder freedom and sits so well! She’s between a 6’0 and a 6’3 in most brands so we went a 6’3 and it fits like a charm. Thanks you guys! I’m a big fan! 50gm is such a nice weight for a rarely rugged horse on those damp windy nights.

Looks great and quality seems amazing. Fits bigger than expected. I thought the fit would be similar to the horsewear of Ireland rugs but looks to be larger. My boy is normally a 6'6 in the rambo and I purchased the 6'3 in the LE to fit my slightly smaller mare but this ended up fitting my boy in the photos, he's 16hh and not a narrow horse.
Heather P. 5/5 Verified
Absolutely beautiful lightweight rug, they fit extremely well and never moves around on my boy.
Belinda S. 5/5 Verified
Lovely cover & very good quality. Only complaint is the depth isn’t generous in the cover or neck cover & the neck cover is short on length.
H M. 5/5 Verified
Inka is not quite two and I find it hard to get a rug to sit so nicely on a young immature frame but this rug is great. This is the 6’3 so I’ve now bought the 6’6 for when she outgrows it. Highly recommend ⭐️
Julie P. 5/5
Beautiful lightweight but sturdy and has a lot of room for big shouldered horses like mine, the surface colour is brilliant as it is great when a bit of sun pops out and my boy doesn't overheat at all. I highly recommend this rug especially to those who have Gypsy Cobs like myself as the shoulder gussets are exactly what they need for an amazing fit.

LOVE IT!!! Finally a rug that’s sits nicely and fits perfectly. So glad I took the plunge and ordered. Will definitely be ordering a zero fill next.

Both my boys are in matching buster rugs with the 3D liners. They have been great for 24/7 wear keeping them toastie yet cool! They also look pretty cute in them too! Material is great and feels very luxe 🩷

Patricia L. 1/5 Verified
Store owner replied: Hi Patricia, thank you for taking the time to email us previously. We would really have loved for you to have had zero issues, like so many of our other customers. As we discussed over email, we had a few challenges with this, the main one being that it doesn't appear to be a manufacturing fault as the stitching is broken, not missing or unravelled. We use the same thread that is used in a multitude of rugs over many years, and we double checked this after your feedback to be 100% sure we had no changes in manufacturing. If it was deemed a manufacturing fault we could offer to replace it or to repair it. Even though it isn't classed as a manufacturing fault, we did offer to (more than) cover the cost (& hassle) of a repair in the form of a voucher which we sent previously to you. I know you may not choose to use it but that voucher is still valid. Hopefully your other rug is going well and you have had this one repaired so the horses can enjoy them for a few seasons. Kind regards The Team at LE
A hard working rug- a perfect fit for my hard to fit, short backed, big shouldered, chunky monkey. It’s been shocking wet and cold weather- he has worn it all week - it’s the perfect weight as I cannot get up twice a day. It’s the rug we have been waiting for! 👏

Love these rugs. Great fit and decent drop for my large warmblood. I usually struggle to find a rug that has a big enough drop to not give him the old man belly hanging out the bottom. I use the 200g liner or the 3D air liner depending on temperature. They are easy to change around and means I don’t have a bunch on leg straps.

This is my second leader blanket, the first one held up so well to group turn out (24/7) in New England, I knew when I next needed to buy a blanket it would be another Leader!

I really like this rug/neck rug combination. So I have bought a second one for my new Galloway. The only thing I have trouble with is the front fastening because I have arthritis in my right hand. I only ever do up one clip as I can’t manage doing up both with the Velcro as well
Judy D. 5/5 Verified
Store owner replied: Hi Judy, it really makes our week when we hear from customers how much they enjoy our Boxter turnouts. I did note you have arthritis so I just wanted to make a suggestion in case you are not already doing this, but if you close the clips first, then sweep your hand behind the bib will line up quite easily to the velcro, then close the velcro over the front. And when opening it, open the bib velcro, then the front velcro and then open the clips without having the restriction of the velcro holding the clips. Hope this helps. Thank you for sharing your review and the lovely image of your horse.
WOW Leader Equine, I just love these rugs. Soon all farm will be in these beautiful, quality and safety featured rugs. Leader equine is a brand and company I trust. The customer service, the attention to detail and communication is of the highest standard. Thank you Leader Equine…. THANK YOU.

Johnny has been wearing his LE Boxer lite turnout all winter and it has been fabulous. No rubbing, slipping or leaking. Love the colour fit and versatility. Great rug.

I love everything about this cover, however it just doesn’t fit around my big warmblood’s neck. It fits perfectly everywhere else and is very generous in the shoulder but it’s just too high of a cut so is very tight under her neck. I love the safety closure but having no adjustability to ease the pressure just doesn’t work for her. I would probably have to get 2 sizes bigger for it to fit. I’ve currently got the cover on my 2 year old warmblood and it fits amazingly. I absolutely love the cover, it’s so well made and is incredibly thought out. The layering system and how it can be used with other brands is really cool. If I could get the neck to fit I would buy one each for all of my horses.
Jessica P. 4/5
Store owner replied: Hi Jess, thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback! If it isn't too much trouble could we have a chat with you via email (if that's easier for you) to have a look at the sizing of this cover on your big warmblood vs your young horse. Our email is hello@leaderequine.com.au and we would really love to hear from you. thank you!
At first I bought one, then I bought a second, then a third and a fourth. All four of my horses have these added to their wardrobe. I’ve tested many brands of rugs on the market and so far I am really enjoying the features of these. The light colour makes so much sense not to cook the horses on the warmer days. This size guide is just that, a guide! There will be some individuality depending on breed/type and build. If your horse measures 195cm we would suggest taking the 6’6 because you are very close to being that size, however if your horse is super narrow build you might find when you get it that you are better with the size down. Likewise if your horse measures 185cm, we would suggest sticking with 6’0 as you are only just over that size and the LE Boxter Turnouts have some room and flexibility in the chest due to their Field Safe front closure and Boxter Dart.
