TRM Ambassador - Shane Rose

(AUS) Three Day Eventer

Shane Rose is an Australian three day event rider, winner of a team silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Shane is based at Bimbadeen Park, Werombi, Australia.

At the age of 5, Shane joined the local pony club and took part in everything, from mounted games to showjumping and eventing. Shane was fortunate in his early career to receive mentoring from greats such as Heath Harris, Peter Taylor, Jane Thelwall and Denis Piggott.

In 1994, when Shane was 21, he realised his first goal, representing Australia in the Young Rider Trans Tasman competition with Mr Joe Cool. They won both the NZ Young Rider One & Three Day championships and the team won the Young Rider Trans Taman trophy for the first time.

In 1998, Shane went to Rome with It’s A Knockout (Josh) and rode at the World Equestrian Games (WEG) as a member of the Australian team. This was a mixture of thrill and disappointment. After a really sensational dressage test, Shane had to walk Josh home about 4 jumps before the end of the course. He was exhausted. It turned out he had caught a bacterial infection which cut off his breathing when he got to this point. He later completed the four star at Adelaide with no ill effect.

In 2008, Shane and Lucky were selected for the Beijing Olympic Games. Although Lucky did not put his best foot forward in the dressage, he came out all guns blazing for the cross country and clocked up the best cross country round of the day. Shane and Lucky were members of the Team that won the Silver Medal at the Olympic Games.

In 2015 Shane created history by taking first and second places at the Adelaide International 3 Day Event, second leg of the FEI Classics™ 2015/2016 series. Holding on to first place with his Dressage leader,  CP Qualified, he claimed victory with a 1.50 penalty lead. He then jumped clear on  Virgil to take second place on the podium also. ,

Shane cemented his status as one of Australias leading event riders, by claiming  Team Bronze as part of the 2016 Australian eventing team at Rio.

In 2017, Shane Rose riding Virgil won the sixth leg of the Event Riders Masters series at Blair Castle Equi-Trek International Horse Trials.

Shane is currently within the Top 30 of the FEI World Rankings.
